An Iron Station-based nonprofit organization that was dedicated to finding loving homes for animals has closed, but still has several animals to place.
Brothers Mark and Will Adkins opened Adkins Pet Center two years ago.
The homeless animals often came from animal control, other rescue organizations or from owners forced to give up their pets for various reasons, ranging from financial woes to health problems.

Some 131 dogs of various breeds were voluntarily surrendered Tuesday to Beaufort County animal-control officers because the person caring for them could no longer afford to do so.
On Wednesday, animal-control officers were working — and hoping — to find homes for most of them, according to Beaufort County officials.
The Betsy Bailey Nelson Animal Control Facility is now at capacity as animal-control officers work to provide adequate housing and medical care for the dogs and evaluate which of them are suitable for adoption, according to county officials.

The operator of a no-kill animal shelter near Sunbury is furious after receiving two mistreated dogs that had been dumped in the country.
One dog is so scarred that Cheryl Hill, of Mostly Mutts, said she is unsure of its breed or whether it would survive.
The second dog, an 8-week-old, has injuries from an animal attack and must be placed in quarantine for six months.

Rufus C. Burleson, III passed away in his sleep on November 13, 2009.
He was 77.
A Dallas native, born on May 22, 1932 at Baylor Hospital, he lived in Sachse, Texas with his wife, Mary Frances.

Volunteers at Citizens for Humane Action are seeking help in getting Marley back to his temporary home at the shelter, 3765 Corporate Dr.
The 1-year-old Akita-boxer mix was stolen from the shelter during its adoption hours between 4 p.m. and 5:39 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 14, CHA Development Director Terri Montigny said.
Columbus police said volunteers said a woman came into the shelter, identified herself as a volunteer worker and reportedly took Marley for a walk, then returned him.
